Online Shopping Habits in Asia Pacific
On behalf of Visa, a market research company recently surveyed internet users from six countries and territories (Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Australia and India).
According to the survey results, nearly 80% of the internet users made online purchases in the past 12 months.
Apparently, digital downloads are the most popular online purchase in India:
The average online spending in India was US$2,147 (compared to the biggest spender Australia who spent US$4,160). The top 10 spending categories in Asia Pacific were:In India, purchasing digital downloads was the most popular form of consumer e-commerce. Seventy-six percent of respondents from India, the highest among Asia Pacific, have bought a form of digital entertainment over the internet in the last 12 months. Music downloads (63 percent) emerged as the most popular digital entertainment purchase.
1. Airlines / airline tickets
2. Online travel agents
3. Travel accommodation
4. Clothes / shoes
5. Car / motorcycle
6. Computer hardware (PC)
7. Food and groceries
8. Electrical appliances (TV, stereo, etc)
9. White goods (refrigerator, dishwasher, etc)
10. Other types of transportation for traveling
There's nothing on the top 10 list that really surprises me. Although, I didn't realize digital entertainment was so popular in India.

It is nice to read the stats, it is catching up in India and I think it is so convenient.
