Default Why so much importance for 3 letter domains?

Why is that the 3 letter domains alone have got so much of importance? For a long time i have this question. And any 3 letters with no meaning is also being taken? What kind of business can be done with it?

Honestly, a lot of it is domainer hype.

A three letter domain is great for a company whose name is 3 words long, as it is a manageable and brandable acronym.

The more companies that could use an acronym, the more a domain with those letters is worth. That's why a 3 letter domain with a good set of letters can be worth a lot.

But domains like xqz.in are mostly bought and sold as collectables between domainers.

Pretty true. Its more of a hype then actually being useful. There are few portals and other high traffic websites like contests2win.com who prefer to have a shorter name like c2w.com too. Click on anyone of the above and you shall reach the same page. Good marketing tactic.

Huh, I never knew that. Thanks for enlightening me! I think this would have answered your question perfectly, Cog.

It is true that any 3 letter domain can easily be remembered. Also branding can be easily done. Most of the companies use the acronym which are not more than 3 letters long. For example DLF. Now i understood it.
