Straightline.in: India's Version of Amazon.com?
mjunction Services Limited (Indian e-commerce company, plus operates the world's largest e-marketplace for steel) has just launched straightline.in, a business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce site.
According to the The Economic Times, mjunction is entering the e-retailing business in a bid to become India's amazon.com.
The site offers products such as computers, books, home decor, kitchenware, music, games etc and it even has a Diwali store."We decided to enter the B2C space to tap the fast growing e-commerce segment which is currently at a nascent stage but growing at 40% in our country. Last year the turnover from e-commerce touched Rs 2,200 crore against Rs 1,580 crore in 2007-08," mjunction services managing director Viresh Oberoi said at a press meet on Tuesday.
It's good to see they chose an Indian domain extension.
As the companies behind mjunction (SAIL and Tata Steel) are well-known in India, Straightline.in already has an advantage over some of the smaller e-commerce sites. How popular do you think this site will become?Last edited by Ceres; 10-14-2009 at 03:20 PM.
