I agree warbux. In your opinion, what factors can help us predict whether .in or .co.in will be the "flagship" domain extension for India?

    hello,

Well, the following factors will help:
    • Average aftermarket sales of .in VS .co.in(i believe .in is already getting more competitive prices on the aftermarket than .co.in)
    • Rate of new hand registrations- I believe .in will maintain a better rate of registration than .co.ins will going forward...
    • Dominance of the LLL- This has always been my favorite indicator. As the LLL goes, so goes the extension's performance overall.
    • percentage of medium-to-arge companies that adopt the .in or .co.in- If more companies use one over the other, it will greatly affect the destiny of the extensions.
    • What the world thinks is ore convenient!-Which extension do you think the world would rather give India as a nation? .in or .co.in? I also want to point out that The world does have the power to change India, even if Indians don't want the change. why? the world is bigger and stronger than India(or any country in the world),so, to argue that "...indians use .co.in more, so thats the better/more useful extension" is not good enough, because if the international community buys, develops, sells more .ins than .co.in, .co.in will start reducing in importance, even with Indians in India weighing in on the issue. A political example, but look @ WW1 and WW2. Hitler was so strong militarily, BUT, the world was still able to tame him, and box him in finally.
YOu asked a very good question Ceres, and i still don't know it all,BUT, this is what i generally feel...I've been on domain forums for a few years now, and i'm seeing where the demand is. We have to get into the demand pipeline!

warbux, thanks for the comprehensive answer to my question! Obviously, if I don't ask questions, I won't learn.

The factors that you've mentioned make a lot of sense. I can see how they would affect how well the .in / .co.in does.

You're welcome. I do like being asked questions

WIth regards to .co.in, i would strictly only reg/buy the following:
    1.all premium LLL.co.in
    2. One word product, service geos, names(Indian would be even better)etc.

It will be .in - anytime!

A visitor typing two dots (.) to fully type in a domain name is a task, almost always, taken for granted. But the fact is that it does make a difference and therefore can't be ignored.

With very few exceptions, when someone types in a name, by default, they're getting into a commercial website. Typing the '.co' part of the name is therefore virtually an additional task and is becoming more redundant of late!

.in is straight and gets us that little bit quicker to what we want to see/know/access. And that bit matters!
