    Default Microsoft's New .co.in Website

I mentioned here that Microsoft usually forwards its cctlds to the .com (eg Bing.in redirects to bing.com/?cc=in). However, this is not the case with the new Microsoft India Store website: MicrosoftStore.co.in. Microsoft India's Online Store used to be located at BuyOriginalMS.com.

I wonder if this switch is a temporary or permanent one? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that BuyOriginalMS.com was recently defaced by hackers. Part of the hacker's message stated:

    Relax, Nothing was deleted.
Or the reason for the switch could be that MicrosoftStore.co.in is simply a better domain than BuyOriginalMS.com. Why do you think Microsoft made the switch?

BTW, the Whois status for MicrosoftStore.in shows the domain is "pending delete scheduled for release" and also "on hold." I expect Microsoft will go after this domain. In any event, I'm sure they could win this domain via INDRP as it involves a well-known trademark.

Thank you Ceres. This is important news. I had been trying to buy a technet subscription for quite some time but the buyoriginalms site looked like a typical Indian dealer website rather than having the Microsoft feel. Also, none of the resellers are able to provide proper guidance or products.

Now after changing the web address, they have also improved the site design and it looks like Microsoft is starting to respect online buyers from India, though I am envious of the fact that Indian users have to shell out about US$400 for technet plus that is available elsewhere for US$250.

If only Microsoft would offer same price levels as in USA & Canada, I am sure they would be deluged with non-government and non-corporate customers. For example, here in India, Windows 7 Ultimate costs about the same price as a decent desktop which makes it very prohibitive.

itssri, I didn't realise the BuyOriginalMS.com site used to be an Indian dealer site (Whois would seem to confirm this). MicrosoftStore.co.in is registered in Microsoft's name so I assume it is now running the India store.

Are import fees high in India?

You're right, they just renewed. The owner of Microsoft.in is playing with fire by renewing such an obvious TM domain!

I hadn't seen that - thanks for the correction, chandan.

Currently, due to the .IN promo, it is more expensive to renew a domain than it is to register a domain. Do you think this is why they let the domain drop and then registered again?

If it wasn't for the fact that it's a blatant TM domain, I would have said it's too risky to do such a thing!
