Thread: How Many cctlds in Alexa Lists?

GlobalThoughtz.com has highlighted the top 10 websites in India according to Alexa (as of Oct. 2009):

Google.co.in
Google.com
Yahoo.com
Orkut.co.in
Facebook.com
YouTube.com
Blogger.com
Rediff.com
Wikipedia.org
IndiaTimes.com

= 7 .com, 2 .co.in and 1 .org

I hope that when we revisit this post (and the Alexa list) a few years from now, the .in/.co.in domain extension will be the dominant one.

By way of comparison, here are a few top 10 stats for other countries:

• Poland: 7 .pl, 2 .com, 1.org
• Germany: 5 .de, 4 .com, 1.org
• Israel: 5 .com, 4 .co.il, 1 .org
• UK: 6 .com, 3 .co.uk, 1.org
• Australia: 6 .com, 3 .com.au, 1.org
• Canada: 7 .com, 2 .ca, 1.org
• South Africa: 7 .com, 2 .co.za, 1.org

The .org is obviously Wikipedia, which Google loves to promote on the first page of its search results.

What do you think of these stats? Do you find any of it surprising? I didn't realise .pl was so widely used in Poland.
