FYI- I sold this one via Sedo with an opening bid of $60, did a bit of research, guessed it might be them and countered mid $xxxx finally settled on $2K

They are pre 2005 companies. .IN became available in from Feb 15 2005. Any company before that used the .co.in

I suggest you look around at the reality and not get taken in by what you 'hear'.

Here's some recommended reading:
Zipf's law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Basically, shorter is better, .co.in will always be second fiddle to .in - just compare the llls registered between the two and you'll understand the situation perfectly.

pnr co in was bought from me by an Italian end user via Sedo. I researched as WOT did and got decent price.

Thus, completely ruling out .co.in is not a wise investment decision.

While I personally prefer .in over .co.in, I agree that we shouldn't completely rule out .co.in. Hopefully, there's room for both.

NEVER rule out .co.in- my personal stats still show .co.in traffic/sales/offers way superior to .in- (I also like them and have few good ones), but my bread and butter and jam still comes from the old die hard .co.in and likely to do so for some time to come.

But the usual factor wins- "time will tell"

As reported by Rocko here, DAS.in recently sold for 3,500 Euros ($5,145) via Sedo.

Whois shows that the purchaser was an enduser, a German insurance company. ERGO Insurance Group is represented in over 30 countries, including India. One of the company's brands is D.A.S.

I imagine the company intends to setup a website on DAS.in, which will promote the D.A.S. brand in India.

DAS is a common surname in India. Not as common as Kumar. Kumar.in I believe as went for XXXX

Thanks Ace, I didn't know Das is a common surname in India.

I notice IndianYouthCongress.in redirects to IYC.in (a definite improvement ). The list of Indian Domain Sales states that this domain sold for $350 in 2008 in a private sale.

As reported here, MovieTickets.co.in recently sold for $1,000 via Sedo. The new owner is... MovieTickets.com. For your info, MovieTickets.com Alexa traffic rank is 2,546.

Also reported was Data.in which sold for $1,533 via Sedo. The new owner is Data Infosys Ltd (it has been providing IT services in India since 1999). The .in domain currently forwards to DataInfosys.net.

Both StellaMcCartney.in and StellaMcCartney.co.in ended up with Stella McCartney Limited, a UK fashion company (sold for $576 each via Sedo, May 2009). Looks like there's a Stella McCartney store in Bangalore, India. I think the company could easily have won these domains via INDRP. I guess it decided it was easier/cheaper to just pay the sale price for these domains.

Prompt.in (sold for $125 via Sedo, Dec. 2008) ended up with Prompt Infotech, an Indian firm that sells computer hardware and computer software products such as PROMPT Rx and PROMPTenterprise.
