    Default .co.in or .in?

Which is the better one to own in your opinion? Are they both the same? I've found a couple of good words for .co.in that aren't available as a .in. Should I buy them?

Yeah! good informative link there. Thanks ceres. My personal experience is also similar. .in domains are far better than .co.in. Moreover they are more appealing as they are short.

yup .IN's are definitely better..the only problem is that they are almost twice the cost of the CO.IN's..

I know! the $13 tag for a .in is literally stunting .in growth. I was reading an article yesterday on .cn registration stats, and they said China was allowing people register .cn names for 0.15 cents! can you imagine? no wonder .cn blew up on the scene. .IN price needs to come down and be truly more competitive to boost growth. Any chance india will do it?

With regards to .in vs .co.in, i'd say .in is winning out. .Co.in still has its place, and you need to have stronger keywords, but .in generally seems to be leading the momentum these days. The LLL.ins are more competitive than LLL.co.ins, and good one word.ins are selling for a bit more than the .co.in couterparts. Those are good indicators. ALso, domainers are chasing more .in than .co.ins, so thats realyl insightful as to where things are headed end-user wise.

I don't think that the price of registering a .in is unreasonable.

If anything, I think the .cn names for $0.15 and .info names for $1 have really hurt those domain spaces. The low prices attract spammers who create crash and burn type sites that reduce consumer confidence in the extension. Even Google seems to be having trust issues with .info. The lowest price isn't necessarily the best choice.

that is one of the reasons because of which .IN domains are never preferred by spammers..and lets hope the registry keeps it that way..plus if it continues like this, .IN will also be preferred by search engines when it comes to SEO..

the renewal price of .in is twice as that of .co.in....

But i think both are equally weighted in India

That will never happen, if by "search engines" you mean "google".

The hierarchies that domainers assign to domain names in terms of resale values mean absolutely nothing to search engines, yet domainers always seem to think they do.

People who argue that certain TLD's are 'disadvantaged' in the engines are completely incorrect. For example, google never "disadvantaged" .info because of "spammers", as was a common fallacy in the domainer community.

The only real difference is that ccTLD creates a boost for locally originating searches- meaning that a search coming from India is more likely to index websites on Indian TLDs. To be certain, you can blow a .in out of the water with a .net.in or .ind.in if your development scheme is better, your links have more juice and the off-page authority and trust factors break in your favor.
